The area of adult and community education or related fields, offers me the exciting opportunity to impart my experiences as a mature student and utilise the academic qualifications I achieved to enable others to realise both their personal and scholastic potential. As someone who began my current journey in the classroom of a return to education program, I am confident my experience and knowledge would benefit those seeking to pursue their individual ambition. Equally, I would welcome the opportunity to work within an environment that deals with gender related subjects, particularly issues pertaining to men’s gender. For example, males feature disproportionately in suicide and road fatalities statistics, are involved in more acts of violence, fight more wars, occupy most political positions and inhabit more prison spaces than women. I believe a more comprehensive understanding of the social and cultural factors that influence men’s, behaviours, roles and action needs to be highlighted, addressed and discussed. Addressing the issue of men as men has the potential to illuminate many areas of Irish society. I possess an extensive knowledge of masculinities studies and have a long-term ambition to promote awareness, encourage interest and develop further research on men’s gender within the Irish context.
