| (Ref. No. SOB - 02) Theory of Pulse Propagation and Ultrafast Non-linear Response |
| |
Theory of pulse propagation and ultrafast nonlinear response in semiconductor optical amplifiers with distributed feedback.
The aim of this project is to study the ultrafast nonlinear response in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) that incorporate a nonperiodic effective index pattern along the length of the device active region. The photonics theory group have developed new approaches to designing refractive index profiles with tailored group velocity. These profiles can provide multi-wavelength distributed resonances leading to enhanced ultrafast nonlinear effects in the SOA. Applications of these devices include wavelength conversion, optical gating and wideband and tuneable optical delay lines.
