University College Cork, Tyndall National Institute invites applications for an appointment as Post doctorate Researcher to investigate and develop wearable wireless sensor network systems and associated body area networking software and to strengthen industry-university partnerships as part of the Science Foundation Ireland funded CSET - CLARITY.

Within Tyndall, the WSN team is developing wireless sensor network solution for a variety of deployment scenarios on and around the body, in the built environment and wearable implementations. The team has a strong background in developing low power consumption, miniaturised systems, requiring rigorous RF simulation and design as well as embedded software development and system deployment and test. http://www.tyndall.ie/mai/wsn.htm
Role:
Reporting to the Wireless Sensor Network R&D activity leader the candidate will:
Be responsible for the specification and development of innovative, wearable wireless sensing solutions utilising a variety of state of the art integration technologies.
Support and contribute to the supervision of postgraduate students working in the area.
Contribute to and/or initiate peer reviewed scientific publications in the area.
Travel to project meetings to present technical results and project updates.
The ideal candidate will have Postdoctoral Research experience in the development of wireless sensor systems (or equivalent industrial experience) incorporating RF system simulation and design, embedded software development, and wireless sensor system test. The successful candidate will be a key member of a team with expertise in microsystems technology, wireless sensors, electronics and low power system design.
The successful applicant should have a degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and a PhD degree in an area relevant to the above theme. Industrial experience in a relevant area would also be taken into consideration. Authorship of quality publications and/or patents would be a major advantage as would practical knowledge and experience of electronic system design. Experience in co-ordinating the activities of researchers in different fields to bring solutions from the concept stage to a working demonstrator would also be beneficial.
Experience with relevant electronic hardware circuit design and simulation tools and strong embedded programming (microcontrollers) skills are considered important skills for the applicant.
Excellent communication skills are essential. A proven ability to work well in a team and to lead small teams is desirable. The need to work flexible hours is required and to be adaptable in working practice is essential.
