BJIEMBA/SD 0303138 -- This hospital is looking for a senior radiographer to work in the area of Accident and Emergency and Orthopaedics. You would need to be experienced in A/E and Orthopaedic imaging and provide a patient focused professional service. You will have some managerial experience and in conjunction with the superintendent radiographer have the ability to lead the service through changing and challenging times. This role involves working within two hospitals. This Hospital is situated near the public transport system and underground train stations.
Responsibilities:
• Undertake all normal clinical work on rotation through the Department under the direction of Senior Radiographers if necessary.
• To take responsibility for their actions as described in IR(ME)R
• Continually aim to achieve a high technical and professional standard of work.
• Undertake to be trained to the standard required by the department and accept advice and instruction when necessary.
• Work as a team member with all members of the department and other hospital staff ensuring an efficient service to all users and patients.
• Take charge of clinical areas when no more senior radiographer is available.
• Ensure the good welfare of patients whilst in the Department, maintaining good patient care and understanding.
• Maintain the good order and cleanliness of equipment and accessories used and report all incidents considered unsafe to senior staff, having contacted the Medical Equipment Maintenance Unit if necessary.
• To abide by all national legislation and local rules in relation to Health and Safety and Radiation Protection.
• To abide by all policies of the department and hospital including Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.
• Participate in the appraisal system.
• Do other duties appropriate to the post as directed by Senior Radiographers
• Work independently when providing a standby service to patients requiring urgent imaging due to acute trauma or illness.
• Provide advice to clinicians on the nature of a diagnostic image either verbally or using the red dot system in line with the departmental protocol to identify possible pathology, in accordance to experience and training.
• Prioritise workload depending on the severity of a patient condition and the direct impact on their management.
• Maintain accurate patient records to reflect the service provided and meet professional standards.
• Work independently when providing a stand/by and on call service to patients requiring urgent imaging due to acute trauma or illness.
• Be involved in transferring immobile patients from chairs and beds to X-ray tables using a variety of patient transfer devises using techniques to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
• Inform relevant clinicians/ other clinical staff regarding significant radiographic findings to ensure a high level patient care.
• Undertake in-house training in peripheral cannulation.
• Inject Radiographic Contast Medium as directed under Departmental protocol
• Recognise the signs of adverse reaction to contrast media, including anaphylactic shock, and be able to give appropriate first aid
Requirements:
• Ideally have 3 year post graduate completed in Radiography
• BSc Radiography or equivalent.
• To be have HPC registration or Qualifications obtained outside the United Kingdom will require validation
• Ideally posses a post graduate diploma in clinical reporting (appendicular and axial skeleton)
• Prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail also have the ability to work on own initiative.
• To work as part of a multi disciplinary team — showing flexibility of shared tasks to ensure that we provide the best quality service in a pleasant environment for both staff and patients.
