Senior Cardiac Clinical Physiologist
 

BJIEBM/SD 0912265 -- This highly regarded hospital has a reputation for exceptional high quality care. This busy department is committed to raising the standards of Cardiology provision for its patients. The purpose of this role is to provide technical cardiac tests, procedures and reports to assist clinicians in the clinical management of patients and to provide follow up aftercare to some patients on a rotation basis at a senior level of skill and expertise. Work unsupervised and independently to provide most of these. Would you like to expand your skills and develop new ones? Both clinically and managerially this may be the ideal role for you.
Responsibilities:
Non- invasive
• ECG - follow protocol for test. Advise referring Consultant/Doctor of any adverse findings.
• Exercise tolerance tests - This investigation carried out as a technician led service and ain Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic. Work independently as lead technician following protocol and using professional knowledge and judgement. Medical supervision is required for high-risk patients. Supervise and train other staff members and students. Produce written technical report for referring Consultant. Verify reports produced by students.
• Myoview Treadmill - Medical attendance required for this test. (To insert venflon at start and dye later in the test). Follow protocol for investigation and produce report. Supervise trainees.
• Tilt tests - Work independently as lead technician. Follow protocol. Produce technical report and advise referrer of adverse findings. Supervise trainees/students.
• 24 hour Holter monitoring and analysis - independent practitioner. Follow protocol for setting up and fitting. Download, analyse and produce technical report for referrer. Advise of any adverse findings which may require immediate action. Supervise and train other members of staff and students. Verify reports of students and other members of staff.
• Cardiac event recorders and analysis - Independent practitioner. Follow protocol for setting up and fitting. Download, analyse and produce technical report for referrer. Advise of any adverse findings which may require immediate action. Supervise and train other members of staff and students. Verify reports of staff undergoing training.
• 24 hour BP monitors - independent practitioner. Follow protocol for fitting. Download and produce computerised report. Supervise other staff and students.
• Echocardiographies - carry out, analyse and report adult echocardiography. Seek advice from senior staff as required. Assist in stress and TOE clinics to gain experience.
• Pacemaker/ICD follow-up - work as lead technician and as second technician. Carry out follow-up procedure and record all measurements. Optimise and reprogram as necessary, inform Consultant of adverse findings or related medical problems.

Invasive
To be able to carry out resuscitation procedure and use back-up equipment as necessary i.e. temporary pacing box, balloon pump, defibrillator, external pace aid.
• Cardiac Cath Lab - follow protocol. Work independently as part multidisciplinary team for angiography, PTCI, Intra-Vascular Ultrasound Studies and Intra Aortic Balloon Pumping. Assist in patient aftercare. Responsible for emergency defibrillation and temporary pacing during any procedure. Assist in CPR.
• Permanent pacemaker implant - new systems and box changes - independent practitioner working as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Follow protocol for procedure completing all required measurements and relevant documentation. Lead resuscitation if required. Responsible for defibrillation.
• Temporary pacing - work independently as part of a team often in an emergency situation. Obtain necessary measurements and optimise temporary pacemaker. Arrange for daily checks post implant.

Requirements
• To have BSc ( Hons) Clinical Physiology or equivalent.
• Essential to have completed 4 years experience in a Cardiology department
• ILS
• Ideally an understanding and knowledge of all new developments in the field of Cardiology.
• Ensuing that all records are properly and accurately maintained.
• To respect patient confidently and excellent communicator.
