Acorn Life originated as a brokerage firm in 1982. By 1987 this brokerage had developed into a highly successful provider of life assurance products and had established a branch network at strategic locations throughout the country.
In 1989 we were granted a licence by the Government to trade as an underwriting life assurance company. The New Zealand based NZI Corporation provided the initial security for this new life company, which set up its Head Office in Galway.
For the next 9 years NZI Life Ireland Limited developed its business and established its credentials in an industry not renowned for innovators.
In 1998, following a management buy out of NZI Life Ireland Limited, the company became totally independent, 100% Irish owned and changed its name to Acorn Life.
Acorn Life has 200 sales representatives throughout the country who together with the management and administration team make up a total work force of 270 people.
The company's head office is at St. Augustine Street, Galway. Here a highly trained team, using the most modern technology, administer all aspects of our clients business with the exception of the fund management. This function we have assigned to the London based HSBC Asset Management whose consistency of performance since we launched our life company on 3rd July 1989 has been truly remarkable.
On visiting our head office in July '99, An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, paid tribute to Acorn Life's achievements and its outstanding success. "Going from a three man brokerage operation to a totally Irish owned and independent life insurance company with assets of over £100 million and giving employment to over 200 people nation-wide is something to be very proud of". He counted Acorn Life "... amongst that growing number of small to medium sized companies in this country that are built on hard work, customer care and a desire to achieve. The systems and standards already in place in the company provide the ideal platform for Acorn Life to prosper and develop further as an Irish company".
